N.K. Jemisin – The Fifth Season

The Fifth Season ist das erste Buch in der Broken Earth Trilogie. Es ist eine ganz andere Welt als man es von Fantasy gewohnt ist - es ist aber auch eher post-apokalypse-Fantasy. Offiziell ist es sogar sci-fi? Ich weiß nicht, ist auch egal. Ungeordnete positive Aspekte des Buchs: Das Worldbuilding ist sehr interessant. Die "Magie" (nicht wirklich) erinnert an Earthbending aus Avatar. Die drei Erzählstränge sind gut miteinander verwoben. Die Charaktere sind alle irgendwie kaputt und nicht typische Held*innen, was ich auch positiv empfand. Außerdem gibt es viel LGBTQ+ Repräsentation! Die Autorin ist super darin Kontext zu geben und auch der Twist in der Mitte des Buchs ist richtig gut ausgeführt. Ich hab auf jeden Fall Bock auf mehr!

Wow, this is an awesome book! Lovely, diverse cast of characters, a beautiful world, a gripping read. It's not a happy story -- there are plenty of hardships, and things get painful at times, and excruciating at one point near the end, but overall it's an inspiring and fun book. Highly recommended!
