Very gross body horror. At times hard to read. My rating is very very subjective. It’s a good horror story for everyone who’s into that sort of stuff.
Raw Shark Texts, Hall‘s debut novel is probably one of my favorite books ever. Read it several times in English and German. Over the years I‘ve been googling his name to see if there would be another book. He was my Andrew Black so to speak. Well, Maxwell‘s Demon checks all my boxes again - in theory. But unfortunately for the longest time the book is just stalling the plot by way of describing some weird biblical, metaphysical, esoteric nonsense. And a main characters who is turning in circles and not learning anything. When the story picks up for good, more than half of the book is already over. So the actual twists and turns left me rather cold. I liked how Hall writes his dialogues, though. You can practically hear the characters talk. I hoped for more of that and less… pseudo-Wikipedia.
That was a very fun read. Not entirety sure I liked the ending. Those fake-out endings sure feel like a tired trope. But they’re also mandatory in a classic whodunnit which Devil turned out to be.
